33 seconds – Happy Hour Knits Episode 2

Welcome!  I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.  What have you been crafting lately?  What have you been drinking lately?

Here are some links to small businesses mentioned above.  Support them if you can!

My latest cast on is the Ripple Crop Top by Jessie Maed Designs knitted in Republic of Wool Twist Fingering in the Iced Chai color way.  I’m knitting this for the Sweater Weather Forever KAL hosted by Maria of the Woolen Forest Knits podcast.  Are you joining?  What are your favorite summer garment patterns?

Some fingering weight sweaters in larger sizes feel like they will never end.  Although this sweater has been dragging on for a while, I am enjoying the process and slow progress of this make.  I am knitting the Oslo Sweater by Petite Knit in Knitting for Olive Merino and Soft Silk Mohair held together.  It feels like a good basic to have in the fall and winter.  What are your go-to simple knits?

Amirisu is such a beautiful publication.  Issue 19 has been especially inspiring to me with so many patterns catching my eye.  I’ve also been wanting to knit patterns from Kiyomi Burgin for a while now.  They’re practical pieces with just the right amount of whimsy and magic.  I’m knitting my Wetherell (: sweater out of Magpie Fibers Nest Worsted yarn in the Linger Marled and Midnight Wine colorways.

Pebble Dishcloths in Lantern Yarn.  I’ve linked the pattern below.  They have linked to the yarn in the pattern.    This pattern is free, yay!

Speaking of free patterns, check out the Cherry Heart Blog if you’re into free crochet patterns.  I’m knitting my flower hexagon blanket out of Kelbourne Woolens’ Germantown in the colorways Old Blue, Jade, and Natural using a size H crochet hook.  I got them online from Starlight Knitting Society.

Carnation and Issaquah LYS Visit

I stopped by a new-to-me LYS in Issaquah, WA while visiting family.  The Nifty Knitter is a cute shop in Gillman Village.  It’s a nice sized shop with a mid-century feel complete with a comfy MCM couch.  They have a house line of yarn dyed by the owner.  A few gorgeous spinning wheels were out on display, and I was impressed with their varied yarn selection.  The Woolly Mammoth Fiber Co. skeins were especially tempting.  I ended up picking up some Suri alpaca and silk skeins from Dandelions and Daisies Fiber Arts to make a (second) Satellite shawl by Andrea Mowry.

Located in the same shopping area is Gossypium Quilt Shop.  I was looking for some coordinating small prints/solids to go with the fabric I had purchased for a lap quilt.  I had some success and hope to start cutting soon once I solidify my pattern choice.  Here is a picture of the fabric that I was trying to match.

Lastly, I stopped by Tolt Yarn and Wool to pick up some Stone Wool Corriedale yarn that I have been dreaming of for a thick, squishy shawl since my visit last month.  The shop and service were lovely as always.  They are suspending their stitch circles to help with the containment of COVID-19 in the area, but I would like to take a class there at some point.  It is currently sold out, but the “knitting math for curves” class taught by Jacqueline Cieslak looks amazing.  I am looking forward to future innovative class offerings.

Take care,
